GPT Advent

28 days. One door a day.

For 28 days, OpenAI ships something every day for Codex and ChatGPT Work: either one clear improvement for most users, or a full usage reset. Behind each door is what actually shipped. Open them, and tell us which ones you loved.

Most loved so far Day 3: GPT-6 in Chat, Codex Cloud and a banked reset 25 loved it

  1. Shipped Day 28 ·

Banked usage reset: 2 of 2

Tibo closed the 28-day challenge with "Day 28/ Banked 2/2", confirming the second of the two banked resets announced for the final weekend.

  2. Shipped Day 27 ·

Banked usage reset: 1 of 2

Tibo confirmed the first of two banked resets for the final weekend with "Banked 1/2" on October 31 Pacific time. His day 26 announcement had specified banked resets for the next two days.

  3. Shipped Day 26 ·

Switch between two ChatGPT accounts on mobile

Account switching is rolling out in the ChatGPT iOS and Android apps. Stay signed in to two accounts and switch without signing out, while chats, memory, files, billing and settings remain separate. Tibo announced mobile availability for day 26 and said desktop support was coming soon.

  4. Shipped Day 25 ·

Doubled Pro and Business Premium limits; Pro 200 reduction cancelled

Tibo announced doubled usage limits for Pro 100, 200 and 500 tiers and Business Premium, effective October 29. The planned reduction for Pro 200 is cancelled, preserving its existing Work and Codex allowance. Extended limits for dots continue for now, with dot usage remaining separate from default usage.

  5. Shipped Day 24 ·

Text your dot through iMessage or RCS

Text your dot tasks, photos or voice notes through iMessage or RCS, and receive proactive updates by text. Tibo highlighted sharing or forwarding messages and using Siri to text a request to your dot. The feature is rolling out as a preview for Pro users in the US. Only you can text your dot, and it can only text you.

  6. Full reset Day 23 ·

Full usage reset completed, plus iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins

Tibo called day 23 a full usage reset, scheduled it by midnight Pacific and later confirmed completion. He also highlighted iCloud Mail and Calendar plugins, available on all ChatGPT plans on web, desktop and iOS. Users can find email, catch up on their inbox, check upcoming events and update a calendar event.

  7. Shipped Day 22 ·

GPT-6.1 Terra: better writing, computer use and twice Sol's usage

Tibo announced GPT-6.1 Terra, highlighting improved writing, personality, nuanced understanding of requests and strong computer use, with twice the usage of GPT-6.1 Sol across the API and subscriptions. OpenAI says it is rolling out to Plus, Pro, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and is available in the API as gpt-6.1-terra.

  8. Full reset Day 21 ·

Usage reset announced for day 21

Tibo announced a full usage reset for day 21, with seven days remaining in the challenge.

  9. Full reset Day 20 ·

    Full usage reset, confirmed complete

Tibo announced day 20 as a rest-and-reset day, with rollout due by midnight Pacific. He later confirmed that the reset had fully propagated.

  10. Shipped Day 19 ·

Faster dot calls, cache-preserving reasoning changes and CLI updates

Dot calls now connect much faster, and changing reasoning settings during a Codex or Work conversation no longer invalidates the cache. The Codex CLI adds reusable prompt presets, inline model and permission settings, enterprise MCP sign-in and Windows corporate-proxy authentication, plus fixes for failures when resuming long sessions.

  11. Full reset Day 18 ·

Usage reset announced alongside performance improvements

Tibo called day 18 a full usage reset while noting the Decisions API's general availability, OpenResponses joining the Linux Foundation, performance improvements, and Uber's adoption of Codex and Work. A follow-up scheduled the reset for October 23 before 10 a.m. Pacific, together with a small improvement whose details were not specified; it did not confirm completion.

  12. Full reset Day 17 ·

Usage reset announced for day 17

Tibo announced a full usage reset for day 17. His follow-up said it would land the following morning, October 22, before 10 a.m. Pacific; that post gives rollout timing rather than confirming completion. He also reminded users to request Daybreak Blue access before an incident.

  13. Shipped Day 16 ·

Persistent caching in Codex and Work, plus 12-hour API caching

Tibo says signed-in Codex and ChatGPT Work users now keep cached context indefinitely, with guaranteed cache hits when resuming old conversations or returning after a few hours. The API also offers 12-hour prompt caching, keeping shared instructions, tools and context available at the lower cached-input rate between requests.

  14. Full reset Day 15 ·

Usage reset after COOKED episode 1

Tibo followed the earlier COOKED episode 1 post with a day-15 usage reset. The broadcast covers voice in the Codex CLI, tracking agents, forking conversations into worktrees and cloud tasks that keep running after you close your laptop. It also features demos using ChatGPT Space, GPT-Live-1 and Ultrafast.

  15. Shipped Day 14 ·

Edit earlier messages in the desktop app

You can now edit previous messages within a thread in the desktop app.

  16. Full reset Day 13 ·

    Full usage reset

Day 13 brings another usage reset, with completion confirmed by Tibo later that day.

  17. Shipped Day 12 ·

More effective usage, plus Pro, Slides and dot updates

Codex and ChatGPT Work make plan usage go further by reusing context across subagents, keeping it cached longer and routing requests for more cache hits. Tibo also highlighted improvements to GPT-6 Pro, dots on the iOS Home Screen, and Slides in ChatGPT Space. Slides were available to Pro, Business and Enterprise users while the team gathered feedback.

  18. Shipped Day 11 ·

Fewer model-capacity errors and automatic recovery

Additional compute and service changes significantly reduce model-at-capacity errors. If a capacity error still occurs, the task should eventually continue on its own instead of remaining blocked.

  19. Full reset Day 10 ·

    Full usage reset

Day 10 brings a usage reset. Tibo confirmed completion later the same evening in Pacific time.

  20. Shipped Day 9 ·

Desktop state storage uses about 60% less disk space

Optimizations to how the ChatGPT and Codex desktop app stores its state should reduce that stored data by about 60%, helping users whose app data has been filling their disks.

  21. Full reset Day 8 ·

    Full usage reset

Day 8 brings another usage reset. Tibo followed up later that evening to confirm it was done.

  22. Shipped Day 7 ·

GPT-6.1 Sol gets a 500k default context window

GPT-6.1 Sol's default context window in Codex and ChatGPT Work increases from 272k to 500k, reducing compactions and keeping more task context available. You can still override it up to 1M. Tibo also confirmed that long-context fees are waived when Sol draws usage from a subscription.

  23. Full reset Day 6 ·

    Full usage reset

Day 6 brings a usage reset. Tibo later confirmed that it had fully propagated.

  24. Shipped Day 5 ·

Composer predictions and dots on mobile

The desktop app can suggest your next message from the conversation. Composer predictions are in beta for Pro users and do not consume plan usage. You can also create and message your dot directly in the ChatGPT app on iOS and Android.

  25. Shipped Day 4 ·

Instant steering and GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast

Steering now takes effect instantly, so the model reacts faster to changes in direction and spends less time on work you no longer want. GPT-6.1 Sol Ultrafast is also rolling out in the API, Codex and ChatGPT Work, with near-Astra intelligence at up to 8x the speed of Sol Standard.

  26. Shipped Day 3 ·

GPT-6 in Chat, Codex Cloud and a banked reset

Day 3 brought GPT-6 in Chat and a banked reset for paid accounts, marking 40 million active users across Codex and ChatGPT Work. Tibo also announced that Codex Cloud had been re-shipped.

  27. Full reset Day 2 ·

Day 2 roundup and a full usage reset

2.1/ Approve for me (auto-review) is now included and does not consume usage. Depending on use, this can save 2–10% of your plan's usage. It also improves the experience for you. 2.2/ A simplified API for builders. 2.3/ Meeting notes are now integrated. 2.4/ The Decisions API is live for builders. It will be used in the app to improve the experience. Tibo also confirmed that a full usage reset had been processed after the four improvements.

  28. Shipped Day 1 ·

GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol run about 50% faster by default

The default speed of GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol through a ChatGPT subscription went up by about 50%, in OpenAI's own products and in partners that use Sign in with ChatGPT, such as OpenCode, Pi, Amp and Devin. Nothing to change on your side: it reaches everyone within two hours.
